I was doing a shitty office job for Natwest and had just left University so really wasn't in the best place in my life, so perhaps that influenced my anger at how people decided this death was more important than anything going on in the world then, ...and ten years later with Genocide, famine, extinction and war still very much a part of the planet, why the fuck should we care to this degree??? (obvious cheap journalism from the mainstream press aside,)

Now my views on the royal family would fit right in with the French Revolution, and I'm sure people who knew Diana had genuine feelings towards her, so I guess I'm insensitive to their fate...or maybe I'm still bitter, ten years on, that the death caused Sky TV to cancel showing a brand new Simpsons episode, back when that was the TV highlight

With the tragic news that it appears Chris Benoit has killed himself after killing his wife and 7 year old son, the internet is abuzz with wrestling fans paying tribute to the deceased legandary wrestler.

Why?

I don't doubt for a second that Benoit was a brillant performer, in fact I'd call him the most consistant worker ever (others were better on their best day, but if you wanted a 4-star match and had to bet your life on someone delivering that Benoit, more than Kobashi, Flair or Misawa would be your man). But the facts, as they appear, are: he died a child and spouse murderer. And that's whether or not roid rage was involved...

We should be remembering his wife Nancy, who as Woman, was probably the best bad girl in wrestling. But few are, and that in and of itself, is sad. NO, of course it didn't hurt that she had top level sex appeal, but whilst not the star or legend that her husband was, she was nevertheless on national TV for 10 years+ (from 1989-1999) and was a TV star in her own right...but where is her tribute page, the ten page thread on her life in wrestling?

Of course when I mention this on messageboard, I get accused of being insenstive and disrepectful of the memory of Benoit. No, not remembering who else died and why (murder) is at best insenstive and disrepectful, and it's sexism at it's worst. But then WWE fans have always been utter morons anyhow...

Frankly, Benoit doesn't deserve all the tributes he's getting right now. Killers don't get to have the Viking sendoff, instead let's remember whoelse died over the weekend, at his hands...

Back in after a weekend in the city of Cambridge, which through no really planning on our part became a gonzo blood-alcohol experiment lasting both days, and including two night on L's floor...(well trying to fit 4 people in a one bed flat isn't easy, so I had to play the gent and take the back-aching 'comfort' of the cold hard ground...)

Definite highlight of the binge, playing 'Dracula and his 3 brides' at the back of a posh Cambridge bar, while all the trendy students gave all the evil eye, as if to ask why us weirdos were daring to invade their nice and proper bar. Easy answer there, the pubs were throwing out and we needed more booze...

Thou just had to get the early train back, another day would have finished me off and I need a good night's rest (yep I'm an old dinosaur). During the ride into Liverpool Street, was listening to Mark Kermode's hilarious review of that POS new Pirates movie, laughed so hard I snorted over priced coffee from my nose at least twice...

iTunes is yet another example of the impending end of days....30 second free previews of songs has to be the most vile thing I've seen on the net in ages...yep some capitalist at Apple believes that the 1st 30 secs of a song will allow you to judge its merits....h'ok lets see....most artists in music use at least 3 mins to get across their vision, and I'd say that taking into account classical, prog and dance music one can say that the average length of a tune on iTunes is somewhere closer to 6 mins. Which means that Itunes expect you, its loyal drone to be able to decide on a work of art by hearing just over 8% of the song....

hmmm can one judge even a likening to a work of art based on just 8% of the big picture....can one see 2/25ths of a Pollack painting, watch the first 16 mins of a Middleton play and have ANY more of a clue weather this is for them (to turn a phrase)...Of course not, but the internet generation is supposed to give up downloading for free (illegally) for this folly, not bloody likely...
