    Time is standing still...
So bloody uninspired right now, I'm actually logging into LJ for the first time since, well the last time I was here Pakistan and Kenya had better futures, my brother wasn't in Sri Lanka, I didn't have funerals to go to, my heart condition was baffling the docs and Hillary Clinton was favourite to be nominated....

whereas now life just seems dull, dull, and dull...

    Calling Bette Davis...
     http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/warners-robinoff-gets-in-catfight-with-girls/

Is it any wonder why we get soooo many crap films from Hollywood with morons like this guy in charge??/

Here's an idea, how about making good films with female leads, and then you can say if there's a market for it...I mean it doesn;t take an iq of say higher than 15 to see that "No Reservations", "Invasion" or "The Brave One" are at best mediocre and worst down right shite...

Seriously, this from a movie studio that spent $200M on creating the most boring Superman ever seen on the screen....

    World War Sulk...
I have  many crosses to bear, who doesn't?, but I had hoped that when I took this job I would regain my weekends, and do what people do on a Saturday morning...namely laze about and relax...

Alas no, not in this lifetime

for here I sit, working alone in the office trying to put together a project that other people have let go to the dogs and only told the boss on Friday PM....so now I have to deal with the shit...

Yep it's just like old times, being the only manager of the cinema or working every day at the record store...

    Sigh...

"but Sting isn't dead..." "Well he should be..."
    I hate Sting

    From this week's Popbitch:

(FYI: The Police shipped over to Europe the entire
US touring production rather than renting here,
because of the weak dollar. Shame the band has no
green activists involved to tell them how
bad that is for the planet...)

You will be first against the Wall...
I don't think there is anything in current living that makes me feel more removed and alienated from my fellow countryman than the hysteria surrounding the death & memory of Princess Diana...

Apparently it's exactly a decade since she died in a car accident in Paris (got to love the irony there...)  and it seems we as a country are going to mourn to ridiculous lengths her death once again....I feel this outpouring of almost manufactured grief is as embarrassing to the image of the UK as football hooligans or illegal wars (thou not as morally repugnant...)

I remember when Diana died, just being completely unable to understand why the whole country seemed to stop and just go into some collective and mindless mourning for someone who, lets face it, was a media creation (Land mines are bad..., yes obviously you are a Saint...) . I was doing a shitty office job for Natwest and had just left University so really wasn't in the best place in my life, so perhaps that influenced my anger at how people decided this death was more important than anything going on in the world then, ...and ten years later with Genocide, famine, extinction and war still very much a part of the planet, why the fuck should we care to this degree??? (obvious cheap journalism from the mainstream press aside,)

Now my views on the royal family would fit right in with the French Revolution, and I'm sure people who knew Diana had genuine feelings towards her,  so I guess I'm insensitive to their fate...or maybe I'm still bitter, ten years on, that the death caused Sky TV to cancel showing a brand new Simpsons episode, back when that was the TV highlight

    Remembering Nancy Sullivan...
With the tragic news that it appears Chris Benoit has killed himself after killing his wife and 7 year old son, the internet is abuzz with wrestling fans paying tribute to the deceased legandary wrestler.

    Why?

I don't doubt for a second that Benoit was a brillant performer, in fact I'd call him the most consistant worker ever (others were better on their best day, but if you wanted a 4-star match and had to bet your life on someone delivering that Benoit, more than Kobashi, Flair or Misawa would be your man). But the facts, as they appear, are: he died a child and spouse murderer. And that's whether or not roid rage was involved...

We should be remembering his wife Nancy, who as Woman, was probably the best bad girl in wrestling. But few are, and that in and of itself, is sad. NO, of course it didn't hurt that she had top level sex appeal, but whilst not the star or legend that her husband was, she was nevertheless on national TV for 10 years+ (from 1989-1999) and was a TV star in her own right...but where is her tribute page, the ten page thread on her life in wrestling?

Of course when I mention this on messageboard, I get accused of being insenstive and disrepectful of the memory of Benoit. No, not remembering who else died and why (murder) is at best insenstive and disrepectful, and it's sexism at it's worst. But then WWE fans have always been utter morons anyhow...

Frankly, Benoit doesn't deserve all the tributes he's getting right now. Killers don't get to have the Viking sendoff, instead let's remember whoelse died over the weekend, at his hands...

R has just emailed me some lovely pics of her Cats, who when they were baby kittens I spend a summer holiday cuddling and fuzzing over when I really should have been out exploring the Canadian North...(not that I didn't do that, but who could resist young kittens...)

...of course does highlight my own need for a pet (rather than by prioxy from afar) since haven't had one since Sly died...

    Nobody likes a Thinker...
....While there are many disadvantages to been a veggie (the be-thankful-we-do-salad looks from pub landlords being one) it certainly comes in handy when having to politely decline flatmate's overzealous bar-b-q burgers...

...and it's not so much the meat cooking factor, more the fact that he feels it's acceptable to cook in the back garden wearing nothing but an old pair of shorts...I know this sounds terribly english, but really if yr gonna cook for me, put away the beer belly...

Maybe I'm just in that kinda mood after watching the 2nd good esp of the Simpsons in a row, something that hasn't happened since, well since I was about 17...

    Small, Small world...
From the file marked six degrees of gossip-ation...

On the late train home from Cambridge last I sat opposite two women, and despite not deliberately eavesdropping I couldn't help over hear parts of their conversation...

The two were clearly work collegues, and one as far as I could tell was telling her collegue all the dirt/goss on her new co-workers. Nothing terribly exicting...except that one of the names dropped was that of Sophie S______, which got me interested....

Because as I listened over (over a Mysterious Universe podcast) they described the Sophie, who I was good friends with during my A-Levels, and regrettably lost contact with when we both went our ways to Uni in different parts of the country. In the days before the internet and a society where it's unacceptable not to own a mobile, keeping in touch was harder....

    What Demons Do to Saints
So Tuesday night's drinks with Rosie in New Cross at the rather unique Montague Arms and low and below if our drinking session didn't occur at the same time as these wonderful folks performed their show...

      http://www.myspace.com/skaburlesque

Believe me, nothing adds to a night out quite like burlesque...very impressed with the performer who managed to dance in time while having what appeared to be a flamethrower attached to both her breasts...:)

And speaking of things that are a little pervy, flicking thru this mouths Marquis magazine you'll come across their reviews pages. Now Marquis quite alot of stuff, from equipment to books, that isn't easy to find on the high street, but within their reviews they're deciede to add a music section. And the artist they have decided to cover? Rammstein.

Yeah the MTV friendly 'industrial' band....

Now I could rant about why a lifestyle magazine believes it's readers would like a certain genre of music (I hate to be pigeonholed, and I really hate Rammstein...) but if Marquis did thing the majority of their readers like industrial (assuming Rammstein can be considered that, people who like Industrial tell me they nothing like it...), why can't they recommend something less obvious and something readers wouldn't already have heard of and decided on...it's not like there aren;t dozens of underground industrial bands out there that, most no doubt better than the stuff MTV plays...

    Our Puzzling Encounters Considered
Back in after a weekend in the city of Cambridge, which through no really planning on our part became a gonzo blood-alcohol experiment lasting both days, and including two night on L's floor...(well trying to fit 4 people in a one bed flat isn't easy, so I had to play the gent and take the back-aching 'comfort' of the cold hard ground...)

Definite highlight of the binge, playing 'Dracula and his 3 brides' at the back of a posh Cambridge bar, while all the trendy students gave all the evil eye, as if to ask why us weirdos were daring to invade their nice and proper bar. Easy answer there, the pubs were throwing out and we needed more booze...

Thou just had to get the early train back, another day would have finished me off and I need a good night's rest (yep I'm an old dinosaur).  During the ride into Liverpool Street, was listening to Mark Kermode's hilarious review of that POS new Pirates movie, laughed so hard I snorted over priced coffee from my nose at least twice...
